COVID-19 remains a global emergency says WHO
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of World Health Organisation (WHO), said that COVID-19 remains a global public health emergency of international concern.
He also agreed with the description of the organization's Emergency Committee, after its meeting in Geneva, that the epidemic may be in a transitional phase and is currently undergoing a turning point, despite the spread of strains of the Omicron variant around the world.
In a statement published today, the WHO Director-General warned of the decline in oversight and the lack of timely circulation of data for new variables arising from the Omicron variable.
He called on countries to exchange data on disease and deaths in order to direct the response to the spread of the virus. He also stressed the recommendation of the Special Committee on the need to continue using health and social measures to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as work to achieve the highest levels of immunity through vaccination reaching 100 percent of the population.
