Deira Clocktower roundabout to undergo a makeover

The municipality has confirmed that work on the renovation of the site has already commenced.

Dubai Municipality has initiated the renovation of the Deira Clocktower roundabout, which will enhance its aesthetic appeal by combining hard floors with greenery, multi-colored lighting, and an updated water fountain design.

On Friday, Dawoud Al Hajri, the Director-General of Dubai Municipality, stated that the project to renovate the Deira Clocktower roundabout aids in achieving the municipality's goal of implementing high-level sustainable urban planning that will enhance the city's attractiveness by preserving its historical and architectural landmarks for future generations.

According to Engineer Jabir Al Ali, the Director of General Maintenance Department at Dubai Municipality, the renovation project will last for three months and includes several aspects such as decorative gardening, the replacement of old floors with hard floors, implementation of multi-colored lighting, and the upgrading of the fountain. He also mentioned that the municipality will maintain the landmark's historical and architectural significance while incorporating modern designs.

Here's how it will look:

The Deira Clocktower roundabout is a remarkable architectural and historical landmark and is renowned for being one of the most beautiful clock towers in the world. Erected in 1963, the clock tower holds great significance as it served as the first land passage between Deira and Bur Dubai, located at the intersection of Umm Hurair Street and Al Maktoum Street, which is one of the most crucial crossroads in Dubai. Before the construction of the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Road, it was the initial point of junction for the main highways leading to Dubai.

The renovation project is in accordance with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which provides a detailed strategy for sustainable urban development in the emirate, emphasizing the enhancement of the quality of life and well-being of people.
