DEWA Highlights Clean Energy and AI at World Governments Summit 2025
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) MD and CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, underscored Dubai’s global leadership in clean energy and artificial intelligence (AI) during his keynote address at the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.
His speech, titled Reshaping the Future of Energy: Excellence and Leadership Through Clean Energy and AI, addressed key policies and strategies for energy storage, clean energy, and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.
Al Tayer emphasized the UAE’s commitment to innovation under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He highlighted the UAE Consensus at COP28, which calls for tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030, aligning with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategy and Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
Dubai’s energy transformation is driven by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, set to expand from 1,000MW to 5,000MW by 2030. DEWA has pioneered advancements in photovoltaic panel efficiency, robotic cleaning, and solar tracking algorithms, leading to clean energy making up 20% of Dubai’s energy mix by January 2025.
AI is integral to DEWA’s operations, from power generation to customer services. The utility developed the world’s first AI-powered gas turbine controller at the Jebel Ali Power Generation Complex and launched an intelligent controller for combined cycle plants. AI integration in DEWA’s digital substations has saved over 129 MWh annually, reducing carbon emissions.
DEWA also introduced ‘Rammas,’ its virtual AI employee, which has handled over 10 million inquiries. Enhanced with ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, DEWA continues to push boundaries in technological innovation, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable energy solutions.
