DFWAC Launches Regional Consultation on Child Helplines in MENA

The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) has launched the ‘Regional Consultation of Child Helplines in MENA 2024’ in partnership with Child Helpline International.

The three-day event, taking place from November 12 to 14 at 25 Hours Hotel in Dubai, has brought together over 50 representatives from the Child Helpline International Network across the MENA region, as well as various organizations tackling child abuse, violence, and exploitation.

The consultation focuses on the mounting challenges children face amid global crises such as food insecurity, health issues, climate change, and armed conflicts. These crises have exacerbated threats to children, leading to increased violence and deteriorating mental health. Under the theme ‘Every Child Has a Voice – Strengthening and Expanding Child Helpline Practices in MENA,’ the event will explore strategies to improve child protection, with discussions on the role of artificial intelligence, emergency case management, and best practices in hotline operations and data collection.

Her Excellency Shaikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting Director General of DFWAC, emphasized the importance of the event in strengthening regional and international cooperation to protect children.

"This meeting marks a vital step in enhancing child helpline practices and fostering innovation to support children in overcoming their difficulties,"

she stated.

DFWAC’s ongoing initiatives include its 24/7 hotline, psychosocial care, legal assistance, and therapeutic programs like Play Therapy and Animal Assisted Therapy, which offer unique support to victims of abuse. This consultation reflects the UAE's commitment to advancing children's rights both locally and globally, working towards a future where every child can thrive in a safe environment.
