DHA Expands Telehealth Services with New Guidelines and Soaring Usage

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has made a notable advancement in digital healthcare, underscoring Dubai’s leadership in telehealth.

In 2023, telehealth consultations surged to nearly 375,000, reflecting a 28% increase from 2022, according to a recent DHA report. Electronic prescriptions also witnessed a dramatic rise, surpassing 230,000—a 103% growth.

The DHA highlighted that 85% of these consultations were completed within two days, achieving a patient satisfaction rate of 92%, while healthcare providers reported a 97% satisfaction rate. These figures underscore the growing confidence in Dubai's digital health infrastructure.

As part of its efforts to enhance the telehealth sector, DHA introduced the first-of-its-kind clinical guidelines designed to aid physicians in treating patients remotely. Developed in collaboration with global medical publisher Karger, the guidelines provide comprehensive protocols to standardize and improve virtual healthcare.

Dr. Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of DHA’s Health Regulation Sector, emphasized the rapid transformation of Dubai’s healthcare sector, driven by advancements in technology and smart solutions. He noted that the new guidelines aim to serve as a global reference for telehealth providers, supporting both local and international practitioners.

DHA also honored several telehealth providers during a recent workshop, including notable programs such as "Doctor for Every Citizen," and independent service providers like "TruDoc Healthcare" and "Health at Hand."

The guidelines are seen as a critical step toward expanding Dubai’s digital health strategy and elevating telehealth standards, positioning Dubai as a leader in sustainable healthcare solutions.
