DIPMF Highlights the Role of Public Transport in Sustainable Cities
The 10th Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF) concluded with a panel discussion titled "Sustainable Cities at the Intersection of Economy and Environment."
Experts emphasized the need for innovative solutions to position public transport as the backbone of mobility in future cities, highlighting its impact on enhancing quality of life and reducing environmental harm from private vehicle dependence.
Panelists urged collective action from policymakers, regulators, and individuals to adopt public transport as a daily habit and shared responsibility. Key speakers included Abdulmuhsen Ibrahim Kalbat, CEO of the Rail Agency, RTA; Tim Papandreou, Future of Mobility Expert; and Frank Wolters, Managing Director of TEGEL PROJEKT. The discussion was moderated by Natalie Lindo, an international journalist.
Kalbat highlighted Dubai’s progress in strengthening its public transport system, noting the economic and environmental benefits. He discussed the Dubai Metro Blue Line Project, a 30 km route with 14 stations, projected to serve 320,000 passengers daily by 2040. This initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
Papandreou praised Dubai’s seamless transport network and stressed the importance of modernizing systems globally to improve residents’ quality of life and promote environmental sustainability.
Wolters added,
“Great solutions present great opportunities,”
emphasizing that robust transport networks play a vital role in reducing environmental impacts and preserving the planet for future generations.
The panel underscored public transport as a cornerstone of sustainable urban development, calling for unified efforts to build cities that balance economic growth and environmental preservation.
