DP World and Zhejiang Seaport Group Forge Strategic Partnership
DP World and Zhejiang Seaport Group have announced a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing port logistics and shipping routes between Jebel Ali Port in Dubai and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China.
This collaboration will focus on attracting more shipping companies to establish additional maritime routes, encouraging slot exchanges, and vessel space purchases, thereby improving connectivity and efficiency between these key maritime hubs.
A significant aspect of the partnership is the commitment to green and low-carbon port initiatives. Both entities will promote the construction of environmentally friendly terminals, the use of shore power, and refueling with green fuels such as LNG and methanol. An information-sharing mechanism will also be established to facilitate these goals.
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its alignment with DP World's vision of expanding its presence in China and supporting the Belt and Road Initiative. He highlighted China's status as the UAE’s largest trading partner and the shared commitment to the green energy transition.
Tao ChengBo, Chairman of Zhejiang Seaport Group and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, remarked that this collaboration would enhance China's role in global trade, creating opportunities for Chinese businesses across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa. He underscored the UAE’s significance as a hub for China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
The agreement will also explore investment opportunities in logistics within Jebel Ali Free Zone and Zhejiang Free Trade Zone. Additionally, it aims to support automobile logistics, leveraging Dubai's regional transit advantages and China's automotive export strengths to facilitate Ro-Ro trade between the ports.
