Drydocks World Expands South Yard to Lead in Renewables and Marine Projects

Drydocks World has unveiled its South Yard expansion, a state-of-the-art, 75,000 sqm facility aimed at bolstering its fabrication capabilities and leadership in global marine and renewable energy projects. This multi-million-dollar investment increases fabrication capacity by 40% and yard capacity by 25%, enabling the execution of multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.

The South Yard features the Middle East and Africa’s largest load-out jetty, capable of handling structures weighing up to 37,000 tonnes, making it a key player in offshore wind energy and energy transition projects. Equipped with advanced technologies like robotic profile-cutting machines and CNC systems, the facility enhances precision and efficiency. It accommodates up to 3,000 workers daily and supports projects such as FPSO vessel conversions, offshore platform topsides, and HVAC/HVDC platforms for offshore wind markets.

Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, emphasized that the expansion supports the energy transition, smarter logistics, and sustainability goals. The facility operates entirely on clean energy sourced from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, reducing its carbon footprint and adhering to international environmental standards.

Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, stated that the South Yard positions Drydocks World at the forefront of renewable energy infrastructure and operational excellence, setting new standards for the maritime and offshore industries.

A 5,000-tonne Sheerleg Floating Crane, operational by 2026, will further expand the yard's capabilities for large-scale projects.

This expansion reflects Drydocks World’s mission to become a leading Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) provider, integrating advanced technology, sustainability, and a skilled workforce to meet the evolving demands of the global energy sector. Captain Antolovic concluded that the facility demonstrates a commitment to innovation and decarbonization, driving value for clients and supporting global energy transition goals.
