Drydocks World Signs Contract with ZPMC for 5,000 Tonne Floating Sheerleg Crane
Drydocks World has signed a contract with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (ZPMC) to acquire a next-generation 5,000-tonne Floating Sheerleg Crane, aimed at supporting large-scale offshore projects.
The agreement was formalized during a ceremony in Dubai, attended by DP World’s Group Chairman and CEO, H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, and ZPMC Chairman, You Ruikai.
The crane, set for completion by the second quarter of 2026, will elevate Drydocks World’s heavy-lifting capabilities. With a 160-meter-long A-frame and the ability to lift up to 5,000 tonnes at 120 meters above water, it is designed for high-voltage offshore platforms and Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel topsides. Additionally, its 600-tonne fly jib extends its reach to 180 meters, making it ideal for nearshore and offshore vessel assembly.
H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem hailed the crane as a “strategic milestone,” emphasizing its role in bolstering the company’s global maritime leadership. Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World, remarked that the acquisition is a “transformative step” to meet the rising demand for advanced offshore lifting solutions.
ZPMC’s You Ruikai expressed pride in the collaboration, highlighting the crane’s integration of cutting-edge technology for operational efficiency and safety. The crane also reflects Drydocks World’s commitment to sustainability, featuring an advanced ballast water treatment system.
This investment marks a pivotal enhancement to Drydocks World’s ability to handle complex mega-projects, further cementing its status as a leader in the maritime and offshore energy sectors.
