Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism Partners with HaejooX for Dubai Reef Sustainability Project

HaejooX, a leading developer of purpose-built reefs, has been confirmed as the official contractor for the Dubai Reef initiative, a major sustainability project under Dubai Can.

The agreement was signed at a formal ceremony attended by top officials, including His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), and His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director General of Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA).

HaejooX will design and construct 20,000 reef modules, to be deployed across Dubai’s waters over the next three years. The first 1,000 modules are set to be deployed in November 2024, following the project's pilot phase, which was launched by Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Dubai Reef, a citywide collaboration between public and private sectors, aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to position Dubai as a global leader in sustainability. Strategic partners include DP World, Dubai Chambers, and Nakheel.

His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani praised the initiative’s focus on marine biodiversity and sustainable fishing practices, highlighting the success of the initial project phase.

Ryan Paik, CEO of HaejooX, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing ocean sustainability.

The project follows the success of Dubai Can’s 'Refill for Life' campaign, which has significantly reduced single-use plastic waste since its 2022 launch.
