Dubai Marks World Humanitarian Day, Urges Global Unity in Crisis Response
Dubai, in partnership with key international organizations, marked World Humanitarian Day today, emphasizing solidarity with those affected by humanitarian crises and paying tribute to the bravery of humanitarian workers globally.
The event, held in collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), and Dubai's Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), brought together over 100 leaders in the humanitarian sector.
Giuseppe Saba, CEO of Dubai Humanitarian, highlighted the importance of collaboration in overcoming challenges faced by humanitarian workers.
"We honor their courage and determination,"
he stated, stressing the need for collective action to ensure the safety of these workers.
Bérangère Boël, UN Resident Coordinator in UAE, lauded the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian principles, which align with the values of World Humanitarian Day—solidarity, compassion, and action.
Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, IACAD's Director-General, called for collective efforts to enhance humanitarian work, particularly in light of current global crises. He praised humanitarian workers as "unsung heroes" dedicated to promoting peace and tolerance.
Sajeda Shawa, Head of the UN OCHA UAE Office, reaffirmed the commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and recognized the UAE's leading role in global humanitarian aid.
The event concluded with a session focused on the protection of humanitarian workers, with participants urging urgent collective action to safeguard those on the front lines of crisis response.
