Dubai Launches Middle East's First Drone Delivery System at Silicon Oasis
Dubai has taken a leap into the future of logistics with the launch of the Middle East’s first-of-its-kind drone delivery system at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO).
The groundbreaking initiative was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, alongside H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and other senior officials.
The system’s first successful delivery was facilitated from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT-Dubai), marking a milestone in Dubai's ambition to transform logistics and air transport solutions. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that this innovative step aligns with Dubai's vision to position itself as a leader among future-ready cities.
"Our strategy prioritizes public-private partnerships to drive research, innovation, and economic growth in smart mobility, in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33,"
he said.
The drone system is a result of the Dubai Programme to Enable Drone Transportation, launched in 2021. Collaborative efforts between entities such as Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), and Dubai Future Foundation have ensured the creation of dedicated air routes aligned with existing airspace regulations.
Key partners in the initiative include Fakeeh University Hospital, Majid Al Futtaim, and Emirates SkyCargo, alongside Keeta Drone, a pioneer in the field. Over recent months, pilot operations at DSO ensured the highest safety and operational standards for the project.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum highlighted Dubai’s leadership in aviation and logistics, while Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, praised DSO as a hub for technological innovation. The drone system, equipped with cutting-edge flight control and low-noise propellers, aims to cover 33% of Dubai by 2030, revolutionizing logistics and enhancing the emirate’s status as a global hub for innovation.
