Dubai Launches ‘Roads Naming Suggestions' Platform to Promote Community Participation
Dubai's Road Naming Committee has introduced the Street Designation Proposal platform, inviting public engagement in naming roads and streets across the emirate.
Supervised by Dubai Municipality, this initiative aims to preserve heritage, promote cultural identity, and align with future development goals.
H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Committee, emphasized the platform's role in enhancing community involvement. It encourages suggestions that reflect Dubai's history, values, and cultural wealth while supporting its global reputation.
The platform, a digital system accessible to all residents, follows specific criteria including Arabic and Islamic influences, natural elements, local flora and fauna, and themes of sustainability and heritage. Names will evoke historical significance, urban landmarks, and traditional professions, fostering a cohesive narrative of Dubai's past, present, and future.
In its trial phase, the Committee named streets in Al-Khawaneej 2 area after local trees and plants like Ghaf, Sidr, Reehan, Faghi, Samer, and Shareesh, illustrating a blend of tradition and modernity in urban planning.
Residents can participate by proposing names through roadsnaming.ae, shaping Dubai's landscape with meaningful, culturally resonant identifiers.
Established by Executive Council Resolution No. (35) of 2021, the Committee comprises key stakeholders committed to enhancing Dubai's identity through thoughtful urban naming strategies.
