Dubai RTA Constructs 20 Air-Conditioned Rest Areas for Delivery Riders to Boost Safety and Well-being

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of 20 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders, with plans to build a total of 40 across the Emirate.

This initiative is part of RTA’s broader effort to enhance road safety and improve the well-being of delivery riders. The rest areas, strategically located in high-demand areas, offer amenities such as vending machines, water dispensers, and phone charging stations, providing a comfortable environment for riders while they wait for new orders.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of RTA, emphasized that this initiative supports Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy, which aims for "Zero Fatalities" and to position Dubai as the world leader in traffic safety. The rise in delivery services in Dubai, with over 40,000 delivery bikes operated by 2,535 companies, has driven the need for such facilities.

In addition to the construction of rest areas, RTA has launched the Delivery Service Excellence Award to promote best practices in the delivery sector. The award, which honors top companies and drivers, aims to improve traffic safety, adherence to regulations, and service quality.

Companies are evaluated based on safety standards, technology adoption, and customer satisfaction, while drivers are assessed on their compliance with traffic laws and overall performance.

This initiative underscores RTA’s commitment to enhancing the safety and working conditions of delivery riders, ensuring they contribute to the overall prosperity and development of Dubai.
