Dubai to Host Global MMA Championship ‘Road to Dubai’ in 2025

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, have unveiled a landmark initiative to bring a global mixed martial arts (MMA) championship to the Middle East.

A cooperation agreement was signed between the Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), and the Professional Fighters League (PFL) to launch the ‘Road to Dubai’ championship, a series of international MMA events culminating in Dubai on 25th January 2025, at the Coca-Cola Arena, City Walk.

The championship finale will feature elite athletes, including undefeated Dagestani lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov (18-0) defending his title against Ireland’s Paul Hughes (13-1). The event marks the first of its kind in the region, solidifying Dubai’s reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the championship highlights Dubai's position as a global sports hub, reflecting trust from the international sports community. He also noted the city's dedication to fostering successful global events across various disciplines.

The agreement, signed by Saeed Hareb, Ahmed Al Khaja, and Pete Murray, also aims to develop local talent by offering Emirati fighters a platform to compete internationally. This aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to strengthen its position on the global sports map and promote MMA in the region.

The Professional Fighters League, recognized as the fastest-growing sports league globally, continues to push boundaries in MMA, providing athletes with world-class opportunities while expanding the sport’s reach.
