EHS Introduces Advanced Vision Screening Technology for Children

The Emirates Health Services (EHS) has rolled out an innovative tool for early detection of vision problems in children, known as the Spot Vision Screener.

This initiative aims to enhance pediatric health and ensure that children receive high-quality care.

Designed for children aged six months to five years, the Spot Vision Screener offers rapid and precise screening for various eye conditions. It will be used during routine check-ups at 20 EHS primary healthcare centers. The device can detect issues such as near-sightedness, farsightedness, strabismus, and astigmatism in a matter of seconds, making it efficient and child-friendly.

Dr. Kareema Alraesi, Director of the Primary Healthcare Department at EHS, emphasized that this technology reflects EHS's commitment to sustainable healthcare. She noted,

“We recommend screenings every six months to ensure early detection of potential vision problems.”

The Spot Vision Screener is part of EHS's Innovation Strategy 2023-2026, which focuses on integrating global best practices into the UAE’s healthcare system. The tool’s accuracy helps determine the need for further evaluation, ensuring children receive timely treatment, which is crucial for their academic and social development.

By adopting this technology, EHS aims to prevent long-term vision issues in children, paving the way for a healthier future.
