Emirates Global Aluminium Joins World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE’s largest industrial company outside the oil and gas sector, has been inducted into the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Lighthouse Network.
The network recognizes facilities that have successfully adopted Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies at scale.
EGA’s inclusion as a 4IR Lighthouse highlights its leadership in industrial innovation, making it the first UAE-based industrial company and the first aluminium producer globally to achieve this distinction. This milestone underscores EGA’s commitment to enhancing performance efficiency through technology-driven transformation.
Since launching its digital transformation plan in 2021, EGA has trained over 3,000 employees in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and agile methodologies, ensuring a digitally skilled workforce. The company’s integration of 4IR technologies and AI has significantly improved operational performance, achieving a financial impact exceeding AED 365 million ($100 million) over three years.
Key advancements include reducing operational downtimes by 50%, decreasing non-productive time by 18%, and increasing overall equipment effectiveness by 12% at its Al Taweelah site. Additionally, EGA’s new digital manufacturing platform has cut AI-based analysis costs by over 80% while improving processing speeds up to 13 times.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, EGA’s CEO, stated that this achievement reinforces the UAE’s leadership in industrial technology development and adoption. He added that being part of the Global Lighthouse Network facilitates knowledge exchange, enhancing EGA’s competitiveness in efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.
EGA’s progress reflects its dedication to leveraging 4IR technologies to optimize industrial operations, improve sustainability, and elevate employee and customer experiences.
