Emirates Health Services Launches Seasonal Influenza Awareness Campaign
Emirates Health Services (EHS) is actively participating in the annual national campaign aimed at raising awareness about seasonal influenza, launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention under the slogan "Immunise Yourself, Protect Your Community."
This initiative, in collaboration with various health authorities, underscores the significance of vaccination as a crucial preventive measure against the flu.
Dr. Shamsa Lootah, Director of the Public Health Department at EHS, highlighted the organization's proactive strategy in combating seasonal influenza. EHS is intensifying efforts to prepare healthcare staff and facilities while enhancing public awareness regarding the importance of vaccination. The goal is to boost prevention rates and minimize the risk of complications associated with the virus.
Dr. Lootah explained that seasonal influenza is a highly contagious viral infection primarily affecting the respiratory system. It spreads rapidly among all age groups, with an incubation period of 2 to 4 days. The flu is transmitted through respiratory droplets, making vaccination an essential tool for prevention.
To facilitate community protection, EHS is ensuring the availability of the influenza vaccine at all its healthcare facilities, offering it free of charge to UAE nationals and vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, young children, individuals with chronic illnesses, People of Determination, and those over 50 years old.
As part of its campaign, EHS is leveraging social media, digital platforms, and traditional media to disseminate vital information. Additionally, workshops and awareness sessions are being organized for public and private sector employees, as well as students and the wider community. These efforts align with the UAE's national strategies to combat seasonal diseases like influenza and other communicable illnesses.
