Emirates Partners with Etihad Clean Energy to Launch Large-Scale Solar Project

Emirates Airline has entered into a partnership with Etihad Clean Energy Development to launch a large-scale solar energy project at the Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai.

The agreement was signed by Waleed bin Salman, Vice Chairman of Etihad Clean Energy Development, and Yousuf Mohammad Ali, DSVP Group Procurement and Logistics at Emirates Airline, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

The signing ceremony took place during the World Green Economy Summit 2024, a strategic platform promoting sustainable development and global collaboration. The initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency, aligning with the summit's objectives.

The project will encompass the development, engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of solar PV systems, along with 20 years of operation and maintenance services. The total capacity of the solar installation will reach 23,177 kWp, generating an estimated 34,301,960 kWh annually. This project will install 39,960 solar panels, which will supply 37% of the facility's energy needs and significantly cut CO2 emissions by over 13,000 tonnes each year.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed emphasized Emirates’ commitment to renewable energy, stating that this initiative reduces the carbon footprint and supports the UAE's clean energy goals.

Al Tayer highlighted that Etihad Clean Energy Development’s expertise will ensure the project's success, setting a precedent for renewable energy adoption within the aviation sector.

This landmark partnership marks a significant advancement in the UAE’s sustainability agenda, aimed at decreasing reliance on non-renewable energy and fostering a low-carbon future.
