flydubai Expands European Network with New Basel Route
Dubai-based airline flydubai has launched a new route, becoming the first UAE carrier to offer direct flights from Dubai to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL).
The inaugural flight, which landed today, was celebrated with a traditional water cannon salute and a warm welcome from senior airport officials. This marks the start of flydubai’s four-times weekly service between Dubai International (DXB) and Basel.
Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, expressed the airline’s commitment to connecting underserved destinations and enhancing trade and tourism flows. He highlighted Basel's strategic importance, serving Switzerland, France, and Germany, and providing significant travel, trade, and tourism opportunities for customers from the UAE and beyond.
The addition of Basel brings flydubai's European network to 29 destinations, including major cities like Budapest, Krakow, and Milan. EuroAirport’s Managing Director Matthias Suhr welcomed the new service, noting it meets growing travel demand to the UAE and strengthens regional connectivity.
Basel, known as Switzerland’s cultural capital, offers a mix of museums, historic architecture, and access to the scenic Swiss countryside. EuroAirport's unique location on the borders of Switzerland, France, and Germany makes it an essential hub for the tri-border region.
flydubai’s new service will operate using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Business Class passengers can enjoy comfortable seats and international menus, while Economy Class passengers benefit from seats designed for space and comfort. The airline also offers extensive inflight entertainment with a wide selection of movies, TV shows, music, and games.
Since its inception in 2009, flydubai has expanded to over 125 destinations in 55 countries, providing extensive travel options across Africa, Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The new Basel route further enhances Flydubai’s mission to connect key business hubs and attractive holiday destinations worldwide.
