Humanity – HIPA’s new theme for the 10th season of competition
The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has announced the categories for its tenth season of competition, which will be themed, ‘Humanity’. The competition’s tenth edition will once again contain four main categories with ‘Humanity’ serving as the main theme, along with both ‘General’ (Color/Black & White) category and ‘Portfolio’ category. Rounding off HIPA’s categories will be a new category, ‘Architectural Photography’. The 10th session will be open from Sunday morning, November 1, 2020 until midnight on 31 January 2021, UAE time, on the official website www.hipa.ae.
The Secretary General of HIPA, Ali bin Thalith said:
“The severity of the challenges that the world has faced since the beginning of this year has led our ideas to bias towards "humanity" due to the greater value and need for it. These challenges cancelled the distances between peoples and inspired humanity that the humanity of the situation and the idea has become more imperative than ever before. Moreover, the arts, being one of the most important factors affecting the process of life, must play its role with full force in achieving the civilizational priorities of peoples, and humanity is among the most important of those priorities.
This category gives photographers an important opportunity to live with the pulse of international changes and translate it with their artistic personality and their own intellectual vision to enrich the concept at the global level with their distinguished work. We also remind everyone of the grand prize of $ 120,000, which is an open prize whereby the judges can now choose the winning photo of the grand prize from any of the categories presented, expanding the scope of competition for this award, which everyone aspires to win.”
Submissions for HIPA’s tenth season will be accepted on the official website, www.HIPA.ae. The deadline for submissions will be the 31 January 2021 at 11.59 P.M. (UAE Standard Time).
Categories for HIPA’s Tenth Season of Competition:
Humanity
One of the most important subjects that is closely observed within the photography world is ‘Humanity’ - a message that loyally binds the people of this planet together.
Photographing the human race has both a profound and powerful impact in inspiring change such as saving millions of lives from diseases, epidemics and disasters as well as wars and its devastating effects.
A photograph details everything. It has the ability to disturb as well as convey its content to audiences around the world in order to connect to their humanity and awareness.
Can a photo impact society? Are you moved when the depth of humanity touches you and reaches her arms around the globe?
We invite you to share the human spirit through photography, and inspire the world with your story of humanity.
Portfolio (Story-telling)
The Portfolio category returns to afford photographers the chance to showcase their storytelling skills through a series of photographs. A strong photographic story delves into the heart of a subject matter and leaves no margin for misinterpretation. A portfolio of photographs allows photographers to capture the hearts and minds of audiences in a way which may not be possible through a single photograph.
Architectural Photography
This field of photography is both distinguished and visually striking and has contributed to an ever growing genre internationally.
This visual art requires a keen eye and attention to detail to capture angles and perspective others don’t normally see.
It engages the depth of visual manipulation and the harmony of color and concept; in addition to focusing on the harmony and contrast in the mosaic of architecture and its various schools.
We launch this category to open the horizons of creativity for those with talent and experience in grasping the aesthetics of architectural engineering through their lens, whilst highlighting the splendor of interiors and exteriors.
We offer you a special opportunity to seamlessly intertwine the genius of the lens with the uniqueness of architecture.
General
This category remains a favorite among photographers who have an outstanding eye for photography which may not necessarily fall into any of the other categories on offer.
HIPA continues to offer participants two opportunities to participate in this category, instead of one. With one category open to black and white entries, a classic art form, and the other for colored entries, giving participants the option to dazzle the jury with their vibrant compositions.
