Launch of the 5th Al-Salam Cycling Tournament, Under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum

Under the directives & patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President & Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Organizing Committee of Al-Salam Cycling Tournament has announced the launch of the 5th edition of the Tournament.

Al-Salam Cycling Tournament is organized by the Office of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum for Purchase & Finance and classified as one of the biggest events of its kind, since it presents vital sports & social role and motivates the various classes of society to exercise sports in general & cycling in particular.

The Organizing Committee has unveiled details of the 5th edition of the Tournament; comprising three races for males to be held upcoming Dec., Jan. & Feb. besides one race for females, scheduled in Jan. 2021. Financial prizes of the Tournament are Dhs 3 million.

Respective bodies have explained that all protocols & precautionary measures of COVID 19 are taken to confirm participants' safety.

Details of the Tournament were declared in a press conference, convened in the presence of H.E. Omair Juma Al-Falasi, the CEO of the Office of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum for Purchase & Finance and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Tournament / Mr. Mansour Bouasiba, the Board Member of the Team Games Sector in Shabab Al-Ahli Club, who is also nominated for the Chairmanship of the Cycling Association in the upcoming election / Mr. Majid Al-Bastaki, Head of Media Committee / Mr. Rami Al-Naboulsi, Head of Finance & Promotion Committee / Mr. Mohammed Al-Musa, Head of Logistics Committee.

The Organizing Committee has arranged a tour for media representatives to review the racetracks & most eminent landmarks in Seih Al-Salam and to be acquainted with latest preparations for the Tournament; the top event for amateur cyclists in the local, regional & international fields, taking into account that the event is contested by prominent professionals & amateurs from UAE & Gulf States besides other cyclists of multi-nationalities.

H.E Omair Al-Falasi extended cordial thanks & gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President & Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, toward his generous patronage & support for this Tournament, referring that H.H.'s presence during races has encouraged the Higher Organizing Committee, other working teams &  participants to  exert utmost efforts and attain remarkable success.

H.E. Al-Falasi affirmed that Al-Salam Cycling Tournament acquires special importance, thanks to the limitless support & follow up of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President & Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai and H,H, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid A-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai & Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, who has instructed respective bodies to make the Emirate of Dubai as cycling friendly city.

Al-Salam Cycling Tournament helps individuals to enjoy healthy life and attracts huge numbers of males & females of various ages and multi-nationalities to exercise cycling sport.

Four Races for Amateurs, Professionals & Women:

The 5th Al-Salam Cycling Tournament comprises four races, following the Organizing Committee's decision to add another race for women, to be held simultaneously with the elite professionals race. Two qualifying races of 90 km will be organized in coordination with the UAE Cycling Association; the first of which is allocated for Emirati amateurs, while the second qualifying race to be held for foreign professionals.

The first race of the Tournament, scheduled in Dec. 2020, is allocated for local amateurs. Financial rewards of this race are one million Dirhams and participants are decided to cross 127 km. This race will be held with participation of 60 racers; i.e. 20 racers who have got first places in the last version, in addition to other 40 racers who will qualify from the qualifying stage, to be arranged during the upcoming period in coordination with the UAE Cycling Association.

The second main race of 127 km is scheduled upcoming Jan. and will be allocated for elite professionals. Financial rewards of this race are One million Dirhams. The race to be organized with participation of 80 racers from UAE, GCC & other expatriates.

The third race, scheduled in Jan. 2021, is allocated for Emirati female amateurs. The race will be held with participation of 60 female racers, while financial rewards will be unveiled later.

The last stage of the 5th Al-Salam Cycling Tournament is allocated for the Emirati male amateurs. This race will be contested by 60 racers who are decided to cross 127 km. Financial rewards of this race are also Dhs 1 million

Emirati Referees:

The Organizing Committee has ratified a local referees committee; joined by 10 elite referees of distinctive experiences in such races, to manage the races of this Tournament.

The Organizing Committee has confirmed that Al-Salam Cycling Tournament will be held as per the safety & precautionary measures, taken to combat the spread of COVID 19 epidemic. In this regard, all participants must get a negative COVID 19 Test Certificate, 48 hours before the starting of races.
