MBRGI Pledges AED36.7 Million to Support UNHCR Sustainable Projects for Displaced Communities

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has committed AED36.7 million (US $10 million) to support sustainable programmes organized by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, aimed at aiding forcibly displaced communities.

This pledge, announced at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, brings MBRGI’s total contributions to AED163.6 million since 2021.

The cooperation agreement, signed by Saeed Al Eter, Assistant Secretary General of MBRGI, and Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, underscores MBRGI's dedication to improving living conditions for refugees worldwide. Mohammed Al Gergawi, Secretary General of MBRGI, highlighted the initiative as part of UAE’s commitment to generosity and global humanitarian efforts.

“This pledge reflects the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to support vulnerable communities, alleviate suffering, and instil hope. It aligns with MBRGI’s strategy of fostering partnerships with UN organizations to empower communities in need,”

Al Gergawi said.

Grandi praised MBRGI’s continued support, noting the critical importance of such collaborations given the growing scale of displacement globally. He emphasized the need for sustainable frameworks to address essential needs like food, medicine, and education.

Since 2021, MBRGI’s contributions have directly impacted over 700,000 displaced individuals in 13 countries, including Syria, Bangladesh, and Jordan. In 2023 alone, MBRGI spent AED 1.8 billion across its initiatives, benefiting over 111 million people in 105 countries.

The strategic partnership between MBRGI and UNHCR remains vital in ensuring sustainable, impactful support for displaced communities worldwide.
