Ministry of Finance Signs MoUs with AUD and ACCA to Enhance Financial Skills in UAE

The UAE Ministry of Finance (MoF) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the American University in Dubai (AUD) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to enhance the financial and accounting skills of federal government staff. These agreements align with MoF's efforts to foster partnerships with top institutions to promote excellence in public finance and sustainable development.

The MoUs were signed at MoF’s headquarters in Dubai, with officials including Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of MoF, and Mariam Mohammed Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Government Financial Management Sector, in attendance. Al Khoori highlighted the MoUs' significance, noting,

"With these two MoUs, we’re stepping up our efforts to enhance financial skills across the Federal Government by introducing specialised training that’s designed to enhance our team's capabilities, keeping them in sync with the latest global financial trends."

Under the agreement with AUD, the university will launch an Executive Diploma Programme in Government Financial Policy Sustainability in 2024 and 2025, aiming to advance national talent in financial management and explore trends in digital transformation. Meanwhile, the MoU with ACCA will introduce the Certificate in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (CERT IPSAS) and the Certificate in Sustainability for Finance (Cert SF), providing federal accountants with skills to manage accrual-based accounting standards and lead sustainability initiatives.

Dr. Kyle Long, President of AUD, expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to advance financial management expertise within the government.

Malik Sarieddine, ACCA’s Regional Director, stated that the new certifications would empower finance professionals to adopt sustainable practices, enhancing the UAE’s commitment to long-term success and financial sustainability.

These initiatives reflect MoF’s commitment to upskilling government finance teams to meet the demands of a modern, technology-driven economy.
