National Human Rights Institution Launches Strategic Initiatives to Promote Human Rights Awareness

The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) has unveiled a series of initiatives under its "Know Your Rights" awareness campaign, launched in alignment with Human Rights Day 2024.

The campaign, themed "Our Rights, Our Future. Right Now", seeks to strengthen understanding and engagement with human rights principles across diverse sectors.

A cornerstone of the campaign is the "Knowledge Lab," a seminar series aimed at educating NHRI employees on key human rights issues. The inaugural session, "Introduction to Human Rights and International Human Rights Law," will be conducted by Dr. Ahmed Al Mansoori, NHRI Board of Trustees member.

In collaboration with the Geneva Centre for Human Rights and Global Dialogue (GCHRAGD), the NHRI will also host a joint panel discussion on December 11, part of the GCHRAGD's Human Rights Awareness Week 2024. The event, titled "The Role of NHRIs in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights," will feature prominent speakers, including NHRI Chairperson Maqsoud Kruse and GCHRAGD Executive Director Dr. Umesh Palwankar.

Kruse highlighted the NHRI's focus on key priorities: labour rights, women and children’s rights, people of determination rights, and health and mental health rights.

"These initiatives reflect our commitment to fostering collaboration and dialogue at both national and international levels,"

he said.

Looking ahead to 2025, the NHRI plans to launch "Manabir", a YouTube series on human rights education, the semi-annual "Rights Journal", and "Human Rights Oasis", a forum for civil society engagement. Existing programmes like "Legislation Lab" and "Knowledge Lab" will continue to advance education and dialogue on human rights issues.
