OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT App for Mac, Free GPT-4 Access, and Additional Features

During its Spring Update event, OpenAI announced the upcoming release of a desktop app for Mac, available immediately to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, with a broader launch planned in the coming weeks. According to OpenAI's press release, users can easily activate ChatGPT with a keyboard shortcut (Option + Space) and engage in voice conversations through Voice Mode. While ChatGPT apps are already available for iPhone and iPad, a Windows version is expected later this year.

OpenAI is also updating ChatGPT's web interface, introducing a new home screen, a redesigned message layout, and more features to create a friendlier, more conversational experience. Additionally, OpenAI announced that its new GPT-4o large language model will be available for free, offering GPT-4-level intelligence with faster performance and enhanced capabilities in text, voice, and vision, removing the need for a ChatGPT Plus subscription.

In related news, Apple is reportedly finalizing discussions with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iPhones starting with iOS 18, expected to be unveiled at the WWDC next month. iOS 18 is also rumored to include numerous new on-device AI features from Apple.
