RTA Awards Dubai Metro Blue Line Project to Turkish-Chinese Consortium
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the AED 20.5 billion contract for the Dubai Metro Blue Line to a consortium led by Turkish company MAPA, alongside LIMAK and China’s CRRC.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the One&Only Za’abeel Hotel, attended by senior RTA officials and company representatives.
The 30-kilometre Blue Line will feature 14 stations, including three key interchange stations at Al Khor, Centrepoint, and International City. With 15.5 kilometres of underground tracks and 14.5 kilometres of elevated tracks, the line will improve connectivity between the Red and Green Metro Lines. It will also include Dubai Metro’s first crossing over Dubai Creek via a 1,300-meter bridge and a signature architectural station at Dubai Creek Harbour.
The Blue Line project is part of Dubai’s long-term vision for sustainable urban development, supporting initiatives like the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, highlighted that the Blue Line will enhance mobility, reduce traffic congestion by 20%, and provide direct connectivity to key areas such as Dubai International Airport and Dubai Silicon Oasis.
The Blue Line will cater to high-density areas and is expected to serve up to 320,000 passengers daily by 2040. With a focus on sustainability, the line will be the first transport project in Dubai to comply with platinum-grade green building standards.
Construction is set to begin in April 2025, with the line expected to commence operations in September 2029, marking the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro’s first line. The project is a crucial part of Dubai's ambitions to become a global hub for innovation and sustainability.
