RTA Completes Major Al Jamayel Street Development Project to Enhance Traffic Flow in Dubai
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of the Al Jamayel Street Development Project, a significant infrastructure upgrade to improve connectivity and traffic flow across the city.
Formerly known as Garn Al Sabkha, the project included constructing four major bridges and expanding road networks along Al Jamayel Street, spanning seven kilometers and connecting Sheikh Zayed Road with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
The development features four bridges with a combined length of 2,874 meters and a capacity to handle up to 17,600 vehicles per hour. Enhancements also included new traffic signals, street lighting, and an advanced traffic management system. The project’s key objective was to reduce congestion and travel times for a population of around 250,000 residents across residential areas such as Jumeirah Lakes Towers, The Gardens, and Jumeirah Golf Estates.
According to His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General and Chairman, Al Jamayel Street now offers improved accessibility and significantly reduced travel times, cutting peak hour travel time by 40% for vehicles heading towards Al Qusais and Deira. A highlight is the fourth bridge, opened this month, spanning 943 meters and designed to streamline traffic between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, with a two-lane capacity of 8,000 vehicles per hour.
Part of the RTA’s master plan, the project aligns with recent enhancements to Dubai’s road network, including the completed Al Yalayis Street and Expo Road, supporting the city’s growth and future transportation needs.
