RTA Enhances Al Warqa’a Infrastructure to Accommodate Urban Growth
In a significant move to bolster infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated a project aimed at adding new entrance and exit points for the Al Warqa’a area, directly accessible from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This initiative is in line with directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
The comprehensive project involves upgrading an internal road network spanning eight kilometers, designed to manage increased traffic demands. Once completed, it is expected to enhance road capacity by accommodating an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour and significantly reduce travel time from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes. Journey distances will also decrease from 5.7 kilometers to 1.5 kilometers. The project is scheduled for completion within one year and will benefit over 350,000 residents.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, highlighted the project's alignment with RTA's ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvements, including enhanced roads, lighting, and rainwater drainage systems. The initiative also includes converting existing roundabouts into signalized junctions, increasing the capacity of Al Warqa’a 1 Street by 30%.
In addition to this, RTA is constructing internal roads in Al Warqa’a 3 and 4 and developing a 16-kilometer cycling track to connect with neighboring areas, promoting sustainable transportation options. Recent internal road improvements in Al Qusais Industrial Areas have already boosted road capacity by 200%, benefiting a densely populated area with enhanced connectivity and accessibility.
