RTA Enhances Traffic Flow on Sheikh Zayed Road with Major Upgrades

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented three major traffic improvements on Sheikh Zayed Road to boost road capacity and efficiency, aligning with the authority's strategic goals to develop the city's infrastructure and mobility systems.

Abdullah Lootah, Director of Road and Facilities Maintenance at the Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized the significance of these improvements for one of Dubai’s key traffic corridors.

“Sheikh Zayed Road is a vital artery, connecting economic hubs like the Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall, alongside numerous hotels and entertainment facilities,”

Lootah said. The road also serves as a major thoroughfare for daily commuting and commercial activity, making these upgrades essential to support Dubai’s rapid urban expansion.

The first improvement involves extending merging distances between Umm Al Sheif Street and Al Manara Street towards Abu Dhabi, along with adding an extra lane for traffic heading to Al Manara. This enhancement is expected to increase vehicle capacity by 30%, easing entry and exit flows.

The second improvement targets the service road exit near the Shangri-La Hotel, enhancing merging distances to improve traffic flow towards Al Safa Street and Dubai Mall, reducing congestion in a high-traffic area.

The third upgrade extends merging distances between Al Marabi Street and Al Manara Street, aimed at reducing congestion, cutting waiting times, and enhancing traffic movement during peak hours.

These upgrades reflect RTA’s commitment to improving road networks and ensuring smooth traffic flow, contributing to Dubai’s growth and prosperity.
