RTA to Boost Public Transport Solutions & Services
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) signed three agreements on the side-lines of the MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition 2022 to enhance public transport solutions, services.
- The first agreement was signed with Nakheel to provide payment services via nol card at the Palm Monorail train stations in the Palm Jumeirah.
- The second was signed with Dubai Investments Park to enhance the operation, maintenance and development work within the protected zone of Route 2020 of Dubai Metro.
- The third was signed remotely with CRRC Zhuzhou in the Republic of China, to study the feasibility of developing a technological system for the Dubai Tram.
"RTA always seeks to enter into agreements that serve its projects, especially those serving public transport riders, and the UAE as a whole. Teaming up with the Dubai Investments Park contributes to streamlining the operation, maintenance, protection, improvements, and periodic inspections of the protected zone of Route 2020 of the Dubai Metro," said Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of Rail Agency, RTA.
"The agreement with the Chinese CRRC Zhuzhou Company provides for a study to assess the feasibility of rolling out a trackless tram system in Dubai manufactured by the company. The trackless tram system is a modern flexible system that offers cost and energy saving solutions for public transport means," noted Younes.
"Through hosting MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition 2022, RTA aims to review the latest developments, and devise smart and sustainable solutions. The signing of the agreement with Nakheel signals RTA’s keenness to enhance the customer experience in using various means of transportation, by providing diverse and smart options for them in paying fares," said Mohammed Al Mudharreb, CEO of Corporate Technology Support Services Sector, RTA.

The agreement enables the use of the nol card at the Palm Monorail train stations and availing the monorail service at the Palm Jumeirah.

Yang Zhiguo, CEO of CRRC Zhuzhou, China, said, "We are pleased to sign this agreement with RTA for Dubai Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART). Compared with conventional trams, the ART has distinctive features such as a short construction cycle, urban adaptability, energy-saving and environmentally friendly. We look forward to providing Dubai with innovative, smart and green transportation solutions."
