Snap Unveils Fifth-Generation Spectacles: New AR Glasses Powered by Snap OS

Snap has introduced the fifth generation of Spectacles, standalone AR glasses powered by Snap OS, enabling users to experience Lenses in new ways. Spectacles, part of the Spectacles Developer Program, integrates seamlessly with mobile devices through the Spectacles app, allowing users to mirror their screens, launch Spectator Mode, and more.

Spectacles feature cutting-edge hardware, weighing just 226 grams, and are equipped with four cameras for hand tracking, powered by the Snap Spatial Engine. The see-through AR display is powered by Snap's proprietary Optical Engine, featuring LCoS micro-projectors and waveguides that create vivid, sharp images with a 46-degree field of view.

Snap OS enhances natural interaction with Spectacles through intuitive hand and voice navigation, and the Snap Spatial Engine renders Lenses realistically in 3D. Snap is committed to supporting developers by introducing Spectacles with no developer tax and offering improved tools, such as Lens Studio 5.0 and the Spectacles Interaction Kit. Developers can now build and publish Lenses more easily.

Snap has partnered with OpenAI to bring cloud-hosted AI models to Spectacles and has teamed up with LEGO, ILM Immersive, Niantic, and Wabisabi Games to develop new experiences.

The Spectacles Developer Program is available for $99/month in the U.S. with a one-year commitment, providing access to Spectacles and Snap support for developers. More information is available at www.spectacles.com/lens-studio.
