On Tuesday, Ajman Police initiated a crackdown on illegal overtaking, a significant traffic violation that carries substantial fines. The police emphasized that drivers found guilty of improper overtaking would be subject to penalties of up to Dh3,000, a one-year suspension of their driving license, and the accumulation of black points, depending on the severity of the offense.

During their awareness campaign, the authorities emphasized three specific improper overtaking practices that could result in fines for drivers:

Penalty: Dh1,000 fine, 6 black points

>>Dangerously moving onto the road:

Penalty: Dh600 fine, 6 black points

>>Truck drivers overtaking where overtaking is prohibited:

Penalty: Dh3,000 fine, one-year driving licence suspension

Promoting road safety

The ongoing 'No to Wrong Overtaking' awareness campaign, running until June, is a part of the Ministry of Interior's comprehensive initiatives to enhance road safety throughout the Emirates. Major Al Falasi, the director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, emphasized the significant risks associated with disregarding overtaking regulations, as it poses a severe threat to lives. The campaign aims to underscore the crucial importance of adhering to traffic rules consistently. Drivers are urged to comply with regulations on both internal and external roads, including abiding by speed limits and other measures implemented to reduce traffic accidents.
