UAE and Uganda Sign Agreement to Build Integrated Eye Hospital in Entebbe

Under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the oversight of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE and Uganda have formalized an agreement to construct a fully integrated eye hospital in Entebbe.

The project, backed by a US$20 million investment, aims to address healthcare gaps and improve medical services for communities in Uganda.

The agreement was signed by Sultan Mohamed Al Shamsi, Vice Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, and Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, Permanent Secretary of Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized the significance of the initiative, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to enhancing global healthcare, particularly in Africa. He underscored the UAE’s humanitarian responsibility to contribute to development and stability worldwide, with a focus on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

This project is part of the UAE’s broader mission to improve healthcare infrastructure, with Erth Zayed Philanthropies aiming to establish ten specialized hospitals globally within the next decade. Sheikh Theyab reiterated that this initiative aligns with the UAE leadership’s vision to bridge healthcare gaps, particularly for vulnerable communities.

Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, highlighted the importance of the agreement in strengthening bilateral relations between the UAE and Uganda. He noted that the eye hospital will benefit thousands of patients with eye conditions, improve healthcare standards, and enhance medical services in the region.

This collaboration reflects the UAE’s dedication to advancing healthcare globally and fostering sustainable, pioneering solutions to meet critical community needs.
