UAE Cyber Security Council Thwarts Ransomware Attacks Targeting Strategic Sectors

The UAE Cyber Security Council has successfully thwarted multiple malicious ransomware attacks aimed at breaching data and locking digital systems in both public and private sectors.

The attacks, which targeted strategic infrastructure, were detected and countered through emergency cybersecurity systems working alongside relevant authorities.

The Council revealed that approximately 200,000 cyberattacks were blocked daily, with advanced protection frameworks in place to counter the threats. Furthermore, the hackers behind the attacks were identified, and their origins traced, demonstrating the UAE's robust defense mechanisms against such threats.

A growing trend of AI-powered cyberattacks, including deepfakes and advanced malware, was also noted. The rise of AI technologies has posed an emerging challenge for digital infrastructure, as these sophisticated attacks become harder to detect. Despite this, traditional methods such as phishing and social engineering are expected to persist alongside these more advanced threats.

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Chairman of the Cyber Security Council, reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its digital infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of compliance with national cybersecurity standards to safeguard against these increasingly complex cyberattacks.

In response to the growing threat, the Council urged public and private entities to be vigilant, avoid suspicious links, and verify email authenticity to protect personal data and avoid falling victim to cybercrime. With criminal groups gaining access to advanced AI tools, the risk of highly targeted cyberattacks is expected to rise.

The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to defending its digital space, maintaining global best practices for cyber protection.
