UAE Hosts Global Future Councils 2024 to Shape a Sustainable Future

The UAE Government and the World Economic Forum (WEF) successfully concluded the Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils 2024 (AMGFC24) in Dubai, which ran from October 15 to 17.

The event attracted over 700 participants, including senior government officials, CEOs, thought leaders, futurists, academics, and representatives from international organizations across 80 countries. Discussions spanned 30 councils focused on key global challenges and opportunities.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Co-Chair of the Global Future Councils, emphasized the UAE's role as a global hub for future-oriented partnerships.

“The UAE has established itself as a platform for international partnerships and a global hub for shaping the future,”

he said. Al Gergawi highlighted that future readiness requires collaboration across sectors and societies, citing the UAE's longstanding partnership with the WEF.

AMGFC24 aimed to create a shared understanding of macro trends impacting various sectors, with a focus on building a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future. Discussions centered on technology, artificial intelligence, the environment, economy, and society. A key takeaway from the meeting was the importance of preparing the workforce for a future dominated by artificial intelligence, while ensuring clear governance standards to manage its risks and potential.

The outcomes of the meeting will be detailed in a report to shape the agenda for the WEF’s 2025 Annual Meeting in Davos. Since its inception in 2008, the Global Future Councils have brought together over 12,000 participants in more than 900 councils, making it a leading network for addressing global challenges and designing innovative solutions.
