UAE Hosts Global Sporting Spectacles in December
December 2024 marked a high point for the UAE as it hosted a series of major international sporting events, showcasing its status as a global sports hub. These events highlighted the UAE’s organizational expertise, advanced infrastructure, and commitment to sports tourism and investment.
Abu Dhabi led the charge, hosting the 16th Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, drawing millions of viewers worldwide. Other events in the emirate included the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, Asian Chess Championship, and Al Forsan International Show Jumping Championship.
Sharjah hosted the Sharjah Grand Prix, the final round of the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship at Khalid Lagoon, and the 6th Sharjah Kalba Arabian Horse Festival, featuring 242 horses in a grand equestrian showcase.
Dubai hosted a variety of events, including the Sport Impact Summit (SIS) 2024, the Dubai Fitness Championship, and the Dubai World Obstacle Championship 2024, with 1,170 international athletes. Additional highlights included the Dubai Grand Prix for XCAT Powerboats, the Artistic Swimming World League, and the prestigious Sir Churchill Polo Cup. The month concludes with the Dubai International Sports Conference and Globe Soccer Dubai Awards on December 27, followed by the First Salam Cycling Race on December 29.
The Liwa International Festival (LIWA 2025) in the Al Dhafra region, running from December 13 to January 4, further adds to the excitement, featuring motorsports, traditional sports, and camping activities.
These events not only strengthen the UAE’s position on the global sports map but also drive economic growth by boosting tourism, hospitality, and transport sectors, attracting thousands of visitors to the nation’s world-class facilities and diverse attractions.
