UAE Journalists Association Backs National Campaign Against Online Trolling

The UAE Journalists Association (UAEJA) has announced its support for an anti-online-trolling campaign initiated by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO).

This initiative marks a significant collaboration between the UAEJA and NMO, aimed at promoting professional media standards, reinforcing national values, and combating the scourge of online trolling, commonly referred to as “electronic flies.”

Fadila Abdullah Al Muaini, Chairperson of the UAEJA, highlighted the association’s commitment to coordinating with media institutions to back the campaign. She condemned online trolling as a malicious act perpetrated by individuals using fake accounts to spread misinformation and undermine the achievements of nations, institutions, and individuals.

Al Muaini emphasized the association's focus on raising public awareness and educating social media users to counter these harmful behaviors. To this end, the UAEJA is organizing training courses for young journalists and social media users, equipping them with the skills needed to tackle destructive ideas and safeguard social peace.

She further noted that the NMO's campaign reflects the UAE's dedication to enhancing security, promoting tolerance, and combating the spread of rumors and divisive rhetoric.

Al Muaini called on local and regional media outlets to embrace this national initiative, recognizing its vital role in confronting fake accounts and defending societal values and ethics. She underscored the importance of awareness as a powerful tool in this fight against online trolling.
