UAE Launches Global Energy Efficiency Alliance at COP29 to Drive Sustainability Goals

The UAE has unveiled a bold initiative at COP29 to establish the "Global Energy Efficiency Alliance," with the goal of doubling global energy efficiency rates by 2030 and significantly reducing carbon emissions.

This announcement aligns with the UAE's commitment made at COP28 under the 'UAE Consensus,' where nations, organizations, and businesses united to tackle carbon emissions and resource consumption.

Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), shared details of the initiative during the UAE’s national pavilion events at COP29 in Azerbaijan. In his statements to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Olama emphasized the growing global consensus on the need for enhanced energy efficiency. He highlighted that numerous countries have expressed support for the establishment of the Alliance.

The UAE aims to take a leadership role in the initiative, offering its expertise in energy efficiency, knowledge transfer, and public-private partnerships. Al Olama called on governments and organizations to join forces and set ambitious goals that will drive investments in energy efficiency projects, alongside the development of the necessary policies and technologies for achieving sustainability.

The Alliance will focus on reducing carbon emissions and minimizing natural resource consumption through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and standardized best practices. It will also play a key role in encouraging investments in energy efficiency and promoting solutions for the African continent, with an emphasis on financing and technology adoption.

This initiative reflects the UAE's commitment to global collaboration in fostering a sustainable future through innovative energy solutions.
