UAE Strengthens Commitment to Pediatric Health with $35 Million Donation to Children’s National Hospital

The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing pediatric care with a substantial $35 million donation to Children’s National Hospital, focusing on prenatal, neonatal, and maternal health.

This significant investment marks the continuation of a 30-year partnership that has resulted in 82 U.S. patents and numerous medical advancements benefiting children and families worldwide.

The announcement follows a visit from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who engaged with Emirati families receiving care at the hospital. Each year, over 100 Emirati families travel to Children’s National for specialized pediatric treatments.

This funding will support critical initiatives, particularly at the Centre for Prenatal, Neonatal & Maternal Health Research and the Zickler Family Prenatal Pediatrics Institute. Research in these centers focuses on understanding the impact of perinatal factors, such as maternal stress and congenital anomalies, on child development, paving the way for improved prenatal and postnatal care.

"Children across the globe benefit from the breakthroughs stemming from this partnership,"

said Michelle Riley-Brown, President and CEO of Children’s National. The UAE’s contributions have significantly advanced pediatric surgical innovation through the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, established in 2009, which is enhancing robotic surgical procedures and health equity.

Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba noted that this partnership continues to transform the lives of countless children and families, promising further innovations in pediatric medicine. With a medical office in Washington, D.C., since 1991, the UAE has facilitated access to life-changing care for thousands of Emirati patients, solidifying a vital connection that enhances pediatric healthcare.
