Ministry of Interior Launches New Digital Services for Vehicle and Driving Licences

The Ministry of Interior announced a significant update to its digital platform on Thursday, introducing a suite of new services aimed at streamlining the vehicle and driving licence section as part of the 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' programme.

One of the standout features of this initiative is the automatic opening of traffic files for residents as soon as they turn 18. Young Emiratis will receive an SMS notification informing them of the newly created traffic file, marking a seamless transition into the world of driving.

These enhancements include 11 new services designed to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and significantly reduce service times to record levels. Key improvements focus on simplifying vehicle transfer processes and updating tariff services.

Among the notable changes, obtaining a parking permit for people of determination has been automated, ensuring greater accessibility. Additionally, services such as issuing replacements for lost or damaged digital plates and updating ownership data can now be managed through digital notifications, making the process more user-friendly.

The Ministry has also integrated Apple Wallet functionality, allowing individuals to store their driving licence and vehicle ownership digitally. Moreover, the new system facilitates easy exchange of driving licences from other countries, making it convenient for expatriates and visitors.

In a move to modernize the vehicle ownership process, ownership documents will now be issued directly from car dealerships. In Abu Dhabi, the activation of digital certificate transfers is currently under trial, paving the way for further advancements in the digital landscape.

In a bid to embrace electronic solutions, the authority has eliminated the need for mandatory printing and delivery of driving and car ownership licences, promoting the use of electronic versions instead. A unified system has also been introduced to allow digital transfer of vehicle ownership and the ability to write off vehicles effortlessly.

These updates reflect the UAE’s commitment to enhancing service delivery and improving the overall experience for residents, setting a benchmark in digital governance.
