UAE's Clean Energy Investments Bolster Its Global Leadership, Says Energy Industries Council

Ryan McPherson, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at the Energy Industries Council (EIC), lauded the UAE's rapid advancements in clean energy, highlighting the country's comprehensive strategy.

McPherson emphasized the UAE's dedication to sustainable energy technologies, including solar, wind, green hydrogen, and carbon capture.

He revealed that between the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024, the UAE will add seven renewable energy projects worth $2.16 billion. These include energy-from-waste and geothermal technologies, underscoring the nation's expanding renewable energy portfolio.

By the end of 2023, McPherson noted, the UAE will have 13 operational solar power projects, contributing 10.6 gigawatts to the national grid by 2024.

"With its year-round solar potential, the UAE is set to continue investing in solar energy, meeting its ambitious clean energy goals on time,"

he stated.

McPherson also praised the UAE's hydrogen initiatives, with plans to produce 1.4 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2031, positioning the country as a leader in green and blue hydrogen production. These efforts align with the UAE's vision to become a global hydrogen powerhouse.

He further emphasized the UAE’s "Energy Strategy 2050," which aims for a diverse energy mix. A massive $54 billion (AED200 billion) investment until 2030 highlights the nation’s commitment to a sustainable future. McPherson concluded that these initiatives lay a clear path towards a greener energy landscape.
