WhatsApp Launches ‘Lists’ Feature in UAE to Enhance Chat Organization
WhatsApp has introduced a new ‘Lists’ feature for users in the UAE, allowing them to categorize their chats for better organization and accessibility.
What Is the ‘Lists’ Feature?
The feature enables users to filter their chats into custom categories such as family, friends, work colleagues, or neighborhoods, making it easier to focus on relevant conversations when needed.
Users can create and edit lists by tapping the “+” button in the filter bar at the top of the Chats tab or by long-pressing an existing list. Similar to the ‘Favorites’ option, lists can include both group and individual chats and will appear in the filter bar.
Default Lists Available
WhatsApp provides four default lists for users:
- All: Displays all chats in one place.
- Unread: Includes messages that are marked unread or haven’t been opened.
- Favorites: Contains chats with the user’s most important contacts.
- Groups: Consolidates all group chats in one category.
How Lists Work
- When selected, lists are highlighted in green and remain active until the filter view is changed or WhatsApp is reopened.
- Chats cannot be reorganized within the All, Unread, or Groups categories.
- Contacts added to Favorites will appear in the Chats tab, Favorites list, and Calls tab.
- Users can create custom lists to organize conversations into separate, easily accessible categories.

Part of a Larger WhatsApp Update
The Lists feature was first rolled out globally on October 31, 2024. In January 2025, Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, introduced a suite of new updates, including creative camera effects, personalized selfie stickers, and enhanced message reactions to improve the user experience.
With this latest feature, WhatsApp continues its mission to offer greater customization and efficiency for its users, helping them prioritize and manage their conversations more effectively.
