YouTube Introduces 'Playables' Mobile Games for iOS
YouTube is the latest company to introduce mobile games available outside of the App Store, officially launching "Playables" within the YouTube app.
Playables are free games that can be played on the YouTube website or in the YouTube app for iPhone and iPad. With over 75 games available, including popular titles like Angry Birds Showdown and Cut the Rope, YouTube focuses on "lightweight, entertaining games" designed for short play sessions rather than extensive gameplay found on the App Store. Game progress is saved, and YouTube tracks all-time best scores.
Initially available to a limited number of users in select markets, Playables are now rolling out to all users and becoming widely accessible. You can find Playables in the iOS app by navigating to the Explore menu and selecting the Playables section.
Netflix has been offering in-app games since 2021 and is testing games on Apple TV, while other companies like The New York Times also provide dedicated games.
