Sparklo Study Reveals UAE's Growing Recycling Habits and Infrastructure Needs
A recent study by Sparklo, a UAE-based cleantech firm, reveals promising recycling habits among its users, with 50% recycling 1-2 times per week and 13% recycling daily. However, only 6.3% of respondents feel that the current infrastructure is adequate. The study shows that 72% of UAE respondents believe reward programs would motivate more frequent recycling, while 67% want more reverse vending machines (Sparklomats) in their cities.
Sparklo surveyed 1,000 users about their recycling behaviors, finding that environmental concern was the top motivator (64%), followed by economic benefits (62%). The research also highlights the importance of non-financial incentives, with educational programs and family influence playing key roles in encouraging sustainable practices. Challenges remain, as 92% of participants call for better recycling infrastructure.
Sparklo's CEO, Max Kaplevich, emphasized that improved infrastructure and incentives are essential for fostering widespread recycling, noting the company’s daily collection of nearly 200,000 bottles and cans. Sparklo plans to expand by installing 5,000 additional Sparklomats in the UAE to meet growing demand.
The study underscores the need for enhanced infrastructure, increased awareness, and a focus on positive incentives to boost recycling participation in the UAE.
