Abu Dhabi and Dubai have solidified their positions as the top liveable cities in the Middle East and Africa, according to the 2024 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The index, which assesses 173 cities worldwide based on stability, healthcare, culture, environment, education, and infrastructure, placed Abu Dhabi and Dubai at the forefront of the region, highlighting their progress in healthcare and education.

Abu Dhabi was particularly noted for its safety, ranking first globally on the Safety Index provided by Numbeo, with a score of 88.2 points. Dubai followed closely, ranking fifth among the world’s safest cities. This recognition underscores the cities' commitment to ensuring a secure environment for their residents and visitors.

In healthcare, Dubai reported a significant increase in facilities, with the Dubai Health Authority noting 5,020 licensed and operational healthcare facilities by the first quarter of 2024, staffed by 13,370 licensed doctors. Abu Dhabi also showed strong healthcare infrastructure with 3,323 facilities, including 67 hospitals, and a total of 12,922 licensed doctors by the end of 2022.

Education in both cities continues to excel, with Abu Dhabi hosting 459 schools, including private, public, and mixed institutions, during the 2023-2024 academic year. Dubai boasts 220 private schools, reflecting the city's robust educational offerings.

The EIU report also highlighted that eight of the top ten liveable cities in the Middle East and Africa were in Gulf countries, including Kuwait City, Doha, and Bahrain, which ranked 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. The report underscores the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries' growing influence and stability, attracting global talent and capital.

These rankings affirm the UAE’s dedication to providing world-class infrastructure, healthcare, and education, positioning Abu Dhabi and Dubai as leading global cities in terms of liveability and quality of life.
