Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) and Aramex have launched a groundbreaking pilot test of Aramex's autonomous robot delivery system at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a hub for innovation under DIEZ.
This initiative aligns with Dubai's ambitious goal to integrate autonomous vehicles into 25 percent of its transportation system by 2030, as outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The pilot phase, slated for three months with full operational status expected by September, focuses initially on serving the Cedre Villas community within DSO. The newly deployed multi-cabin delivery robot marks an upgrade, promising enhanced operational efficiency and a significant reduction in carbon emissions—projected at over 500 kilograms during the trial period. It aims to autonomously handle more than 1,000 deliveries within Cedre Villas, showcasing its potential impact on sustainable urban logistics.
Muammar Khaled Al Katheeri, DIEZ's Chief Officer of Engineering and Sustainability, emphasized the initiative's role in advancing Dubai's smart mobility strategies and promoting eco-friendly urban development. He highlighted DIEZ's commitment to incorporating cutting-edge technologies for a greener future across its economic zones.
Tarek Abuyaghi, General Manager of Aramex, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership's potential to revolutionize last-mile delivery services, enhancing efficiency while prioritizing environmental sustainability. The initiative includes robust security measures such as secure pin codes for residents and a mobile outlet at Cedre Shopping Centre for seamless operations.
Equipped with advanced features like depth cameras and swappable battery packs, the delivery robot underscores a commitment to meeting modern logistical challenges. Future plans include expanding the service across other economic zones, underscoring Dubai's leadership in urban innovation.
The collaboration between DIEZ and Aramex heralds a significant advancement in autonomous delivery technology, promising a more sustainable and efficient future for urban logistics in Dubai.
