Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), underscored the aviation sector’s vital contribution to the global economy, stating that it accounts for 12 to 13 percent of GDP in some countries and supports millions of jobs worldwide.
Speaking at the “ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2025” and the “Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace” in Abu Dhabi, Al Marri highlighted aviation’s $4.1 trillion contribution to the global economy. He noted that the sector not only creates employment but also drives economic growth by facilitating international trade and tourism.
He emphasized that 58% of international tourists rely on air travel, making aviation crucial for tourism-driven economies. The sector enhances business connectivity, enabling companies to reach global clients and suppliers efficiently.
Additionally, Al Marri highlighted aviation’s role in linking remote areas to urban centers, improving access to essential services such as healthcare and education. The sector also plays a key role in humanitarian operations, including disaster relief and medical evacuations, helping to overcome geographical barriers.
The symposium served as a platform to discuss aviation’s sustainability and future growth, reinforcing its role in shaping global economic development.
