Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Emaar Properties, is expanding the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station to accommodate a sharp rise in passengers, especially during New Year’s Eve, public holidays, and major events.

The station’s area will grow from 6,700 to 8,500 square metres, boosting its hourly capacity by 65% from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers. Once completed, it will serve up to 220,000 riders daily.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General, highlighted the station’s critical role due to its prime location near Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. He noted the steady increase in usage since its 2010 opening, with annual ridership rising from 6.13 million in 2013 to over 10.5 million in 2024, averaging nearly 58,000 daily users.

The expansion includes enhanced entrances, pedestrian bridges, larger concourses and platforms, more escalators and elevators, and separate entry and exit gates to streamline flow. Additional fare gates and expanded commercial spaces will improve convenience and revenue. The design also integrates smoothly with other public transport and alternative mobility options.

Architecturally inspired by a seashell, the station balances safety, simplicity, and accessibility. It prioritizes reduced walking distances, visual connectivity, and inclusivity for People of Determination, seniors, and families. This upgrade ensures the station remains a vital, efficient gateway for Dubai’s residents and visitors well into 2040 and beyond.
