Key Parking Policies and Timings

As of March 28, 2022, parking in Dubai is paid from Monday to Saturday. The paid hours are from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm without any breaks. Parking is free on Sundays and public holidays, and RTA also offers free parking during special occasions like Eid Al Adha.

Previously, Fridays were free parking days, but this rule has changed, and now parking fees apply on Fridays, just like any other weekday.

Ramadan Parking Timings

During Ramadan, the parking timings are adjusted to accommodate the daily schedule. Paid parking is active in two shifts:

  • 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • 8:00 pm to 12:00 am
This change ensures that people can park for free during Iftar and part of the evening to ease the burden during fasting hours.

Special Zones and Free Areas

Some areas, such as Zone E (Waterfront Market), have free underground parking, while roadside parking follows standard tariffs. Zones like Tecom (Zone F) and Downtown Dubai (Zone G) are considered premium areas, and thus, parking fees are relatively higher compared to residential or non-commercial zones.

Zone I, J, and K – Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT)

In Jumeirah Lake Towers, there are three distinct zones for parking:

  • Zone I is designated for prime parking, allowing a maximum stay of three hours, with fees starting from AED 10 per hour.
  • Zones J and K cater to short-stay parking and are ideal for quick visits. The parking tariffs are lower, starting at AED 2 for 30 minutes, but the duration is capped at four hours for most areas.

Al Khail Gate Parking Exemption

Residents of Al Khail Gate benefit from a parking fee exemption, offering relief to those living in the area. This is an important change that helps residents avoid daily parking costs, which can add up significantly over time.

What Are the Category One and Category Two Paid Parking Areas in Dubai?

Dubai's paid parking system is divided into two main categories: Category One and Category Two, each covering specific areas based on traffic demand and location.

Category One - High-Demand Areas (Zones A and B)

Category One includes the busiest and most commercial areas of Dubai, primarily covered by Zone A (roadside parking) and Zone B (parking lots). These zones are found in the following key districts:

  • Deira: Areas such as Abu Hail, Hor Al Anz, Al Baraha, Al Muraqabat, Naif, Port Saeed, Deira Fish Market, and Al Rigga fall under this category. These are densely populated commercial and residential areas, known for high traffic and parking demand.
  • Bur Dubai: Prominent areas like Al Karama, Al Mankhool, Oud Metha, Al Shindagha, Al Raffa, and streets like 2nd December Street and the stretch between Dubai World Trade Centre and Interchange One on Sheikh Zayed Road also belong to Category One. These areas are major commercial hubs with a high influx of visitors and residents.
  • Jumeirah: This includes premium areas such as Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), JBR Walk, and Al Saada Street, which attract heavy foot traffic due to their proximity to beaches, hotels, and restaurants.

Category Two - Less Busy Areas

All other zones in Dubai that do not fall under Zone A or Zone B are classified as Category Two. These are typically less crowded residential or peripheral areas with lower parking demand. Although still paid zones, the parking tariffs and regulations in Category Two areas are generally more relaxed compared to Category One.

Are There Any Parking Spaces for People of Determination in Dubai?

In the UAE, People of Determination (individuals with disabilities) can benefit from free parking in designated spots, as long as they hold a valid parking permit issued by the relevant authorities. This permit allows access to specific parking spaces across the UAE, including Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

Types of Parking Permits:

  1. Permanent Permit: Issued to those with long-term disabilities, valid for three years.
  2. Temporary Permit: For short-term disabilities, with validity based on a medical report.
  3. Visitor Permit: Available for tourists or visitors with disabilities, valid for three months.

Please note: The permit must be valid and regularly renewed. It’s strictly prohibited for anyone other than People of Determination to use these designated parking spots, and misuse can result in fines

What Are the Different Ways to Pay Parking Charges in Dubai?

Paying for parking in Dubai is simple and can be done through several convenient methods. Here are the available options:

mParking (SMS Payment)

The mParking system allows drivers to conveniently pay for parking using SMS. To use this service, follow the steps based on whether you are a registered or unregistered user:

  • Unregistered Users:
Send an SMS to 7275 (PARK) using the following format:
[Plate Number] [Space] [Zone Number] [Space] [Duration]
    Example: A12345 123A 2 (for 2 hours).
  • Registered Users:
Registered users can send an SMS to 7275 using their pre-set nickname:
[Nickname] [Space] [Zone Number] [Space] [Duration]
    Example: John123 123A 2 (for 2 hours).

Motorists also have the option to receive hourly renewal alerts for an additional charge of 30 fils per SMS. This service is available for both Dubai-registered and non-Dubai-registered vehicles.

RTA Dubai or Dubai Drive App

You can pay for parking through the RTA Dubai or Dubai Drive applications. After downloading the app and registering your vehicle, simply follow the instructions to pay for your parking.

Parking Machines

Parking machines are located throughout Dubai, and you can pay using coins. Once you receive the ticket, place it on your vehicle's dashboard for verification.

Prepaid Parking Cards

Prepaid parking cards are available at grocery stores and supermarkets in denominations of AED 30, AED 50, and AED 100. These cards can be inserted into parking machines, and the relevant parking fees will be deducted.

Seasonal Parking Cards

Seasonal parking cards can be purchased for selected Category A and B zones. These cards are available with a validity of three months, six months, or one year, offering a more cost-effective option for regular parking.

nol Card

If you have a nol card, you can use it to pay for parking. The charge will be automatically deducted from your card balance when you insert it into the machine.

RFID Bank Cards

Certain banks offer RFID bank cards that allow you to pay for parking by tapping your card at the parking meter. The balance is automatically deducted each time you make a payment.

NFC Payments via Smartphones

For smartphone users with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, you can pay for parking by tapping your phone at designated POS access points. This option is compatible with iPhone and Android.

WhatsApp Parking Payment

You can also pay for parking via WhatsApp by sending a message to RTA’s chatbot, Mahboub, at +971588009090. The message format should be:
